New Delhi: Two suspected Pakistani intruders were killed after the BSF opened fire on them near the international border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. The incident took place in the vicinity of the Rajoke border outpost (BOP) under the Khalra police station area.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 12.30am on Thursday when BSF troops deployed along the border noticed two men moving towards the Indian side. The troops reportedly challenged them and asked them to stop, but the two men allegedly continued moving forward, Punjab Newsline reported.
The BSF troops opened fire after the men reportedly failed to respond to repeated warnings. Both men were killed in the firing, while preliminary information indicates that they could be Pakistani nationals.
The identity of the intruders has not yet been officially confirmed. The bodies have been turned over to the police for autopsy, and the authorities are currently trying to identify them and obtain more details of the event.
The situation involving the presence of the two men at the border is also being investigated. According to ANI, the officials are working together with the Punjab Police, and they are supposed to get the chain of events before the firing took place.
It all happened at a sensitive border area between India and Pakistan, which is under constant watch by the BSF. It is being claimed that the authorities are investigating how these two individuals reached India and whether they crossed the border before the incident took place.
There should also be a meeting between BSF and the officer from Pakistan in relation to the incident. More talks may revolve around the details of the incident and the available information about the two men.
The BSF has not, at present, made an official statement in detail about the names of the intruders or any other particulars regarding the event. More particulars will be known after the investigation and postmortem have been conducted.
