Navy sailor, wife and two children found dead at Mumbai residence

New Delhi: An Indian Navy sailor, his wife and their two young children were found dead at their residence in Mumbai’s Navy Nagar on Saturday. Police said preliminary findings suggest that the sailor died by suicide, while his wife and children are suspected to have died from poisoning.

The children were aged two months and three years, and the bodies were recovered from the family’s apartment in the cantonment area of Navy Nagar, Colaba.

Manish Kalwaniya, deputy commissioner of police, said the preliminary investigation indicated that the sailor had died by hanging, while poisoning appeared to be the cause of death in the case of his wife and children. 

The exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem examination. Police said the examination was underway and further investigation was in progress.

The incident came to light on Saturday, following which local police reached the residence and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The Indian Navy confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that a sailor, his wife and their two children were found dead at their residence in Navy Nagar on August 15.

The Navy said the police investigation was in progress and that it was extending “all possible assistance” to the authorities.

Police are awaiting the post-mortem reports, which will help establish the exact cause of death. Further details are awaited.
