New Delhi: Suspects in the October 18 shooting at actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai allegedly conducted reconnaissance around Aamir Khan’s residence on three occasions before shifting their attention to Shroff. Investigators are examining whether the reported surveillance formed part of a wider plot to intimidate Bollywood personalities.
NDTV reported on Monday, citing police sources, that the accused initially considered Salman Khan before looking at other actors. The Indian Express, however, cited investigators who described Aamir Khan as the original target of the operation. The accounts differ on the alleged sequence, and police have not publicly confirmed a definitive list of targets.
On October 18, two men allegedly fired at Shroff’s car as he left a football session in Juhu and escaped with an accomplice on a motorcycle. Shroff was not seriously hurt, but his driver and a bystander were injured. As RNA Media previously reported, CCTV footage helped investigators trace the suspects, three of whom were caught on a train at Kota.
Other residences under scrutiny
NDTV reported that suspects also monitored areas near the homes of Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. The Indian Express separately reported visits near the residences of Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh, while other reports mentioned Ranbir Kapoor. Such visits alone do not prove that the actors were selected for attacks.
In a remand application, Mumbai Police alleged the shooting was intended to generate financial gain, create fear and establish dominance. That is distinct from an unverified online claim connecting the attack to Shroff’s association with Salman Khan.
Eleventh arrest and weapons recovery
Police arrested Pranjal Thakran, 22, in Indore and a Mumbai court remanded him to police custody until October 31, taking the reported total to 11 arrests. Investigators suspect that he helped supply weapons and maintained contact with wanted suspect Anil Pandit, described in police-sourced reporting as a Lawrence Bishnoi gang associate. Thakran’s family disputed his involvement.
Investigators recovered two pistols and 10 live cartridges in Surat. The firearms and communications evidence are being examined to establish how the attack was planned and supported.
Police are separately examining an audio clip and social media post attributed to people using the names Arzoo Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi that reportedly threatened Aamir Khan. Their authorship and any connection with the shooting remain unverified.
Investigators have yet to establish the conspiracy’s full scope, the roles of suspected handlers and whether every reported reconnaissance visit involved an intended target.
