New Delhi: Three suspects in the Tiger Shroff shooting case, including a 17-year-old and a Mumbai-based bike taxi rider, were apprehended at Rajasthan’s Kota railway station on Sunday, less than a day after gunmen opened fire at the actor’s car. Investigators traced their movements through CCTV footage and alerted Rajasthan Police, who intercepted their train before they could allegedly continue towards Delhi and eventually Nepal.
The operation brought together Mumbai Police, Rajasthan’s anti-gangster task force and Kota City Police, turning an overnight investigation into a railway interception the following morning. According to police, two of the suspects allegedly fired at the vehicle, while the third acted as the motorcycle rider who helped them escape.
The oldest of the three is Hrithik Kumar, alias Roshan, a 22-year-old originally from Bihar’s Begusarai district who had been living in Mumbai’s Andheri West and working as a bike taxi rider. A Kota police briefing identified him as Hritik Kurmi and said he had lived in Mumbai for several years.
The second adult suspect is Rehan, alias Sukka, an 18-year-old from Sonipat in Haryana, whose alleged contact with gangster Anil Pandit has become an important line of inquiry. The third suspect is a 17-year-old from Haryana, described by The Times of India as a potter; his identity is being withheld because he is a juvenile.
These initial accounts of the suspects’ backgrounds place one in Mumbai and the other two in Haryana. Police have yet to publicly explain in detail how they came together, when the alleged plan was formed or what each was promised for participating.
The first substantial leads emerged from the attackers’ escape through Mumbai after the shooting near Pushpa Narsee Park in Juhu at around 7pm on October 18, 2026. Investigators obtained images of two suspected attackers and recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime outside the western side of Andheri railway station.
Police examined CCTV footage along the escape route, including towards SV Road, and scrutinized cameras at nearby railway stations to establish whether the men had boarded a train. Fifteen teams were deployed to examine possible routes out of the city by rail, road and air.
The Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, subsequently said the suspects fled towards Surat and boarded the Pune–Jaipur Express, prompting Mumbai Police to contact their Rajasthan counterparts. The Kota superintendent of police, Tejaswani Gautam, said the information came from Mumbai’s deputy commissioner of police, crime, allowing local officers to prepare an interception.
Gautam told reporters that her team set a trap within 15 minutes of receiving the information and searched the train, locating all three suspects. They were travelling in a general compartment, she said, with a plan to reach Delhi and then head towards Nepal.
According to Indian Express, the train reached Kota Junction at around 10.30am, and the suspects intended to get off at Jaipur before taking a bus to Delhi. Mumbai officers subsequently reached Kota to take custody after the necessary legal formalities.
No weapons were recovered from the three when they were apprehended, leaving investigators to establish what happened to the firearms used in the attack. Gautam said preliminary questioning indicated that Pandit had been in contact with Rehan and described Pandit as linked to Lawrence Bishnoi.
That preliminary police account is separate from establishing the authenticity of social media messages claiming responsibility for the shooting. Investigators are examining a purported Bishnoi gang claim, but the messages alone do not establish who commissioned the attack or its motive.
The shooting occurred as Shroff was leaving a football ground, a location investigators suspect the attackers had surveyed beforehand because of his regular Sunday visits. Police said five rounds were fired, injuring his driver and another man nearby, as reported in RNA Media’s initial coverage of the attack.
Shroff escaped bullet wounds but sustained minor injuries, qualifying earlier reports that he was entirely unhurt. The Maharashtra deputy chief minister, Eknath Shinde, attributed injuries to the actor’s hand to gunpowder and broken glass after visiting him at home that night.
As RNA Media’s subsequent report on the emerging videos noted, footage appeared to show two men approaching the car before fleeing on a motorcycle with a third person. Other footage reportedly showed Shroff taking the driving seat after his driver was injured, providing investigators with a further record of the attack and its immediate aftermath.
