Vietnam Boat Tragedy: 15 Indians dead as boat capsizes off Phu Quoc island

New Delhi: The mortal remains of 15 Indians who were killed after a boat that they were on capsized off Vietnam’s Phu Quoc island are being transported to Ho Chi Minh City and are expected to reach there by Sunday evening, the Indian embassy in Hanoi said in a post on X.
The deceased were on a company-sponsored incentive trip organized by Lava Mobiles for its channel partners and employees.
A total of 32 Indians were on board the boat. Of these, a total of 15 Indian tourists lost their lives. Announcing the tragic incident, the Indian embassy in Vietnam posted a list of the names of all 15 deceased and the Indian states they belonged to.
Among the deceased, 10 belonged to Tamil Nadu: Senthil Kumar Jayavel, Muruga Prabhu Arumugam, Sridhar Sundararajan, Shaik Abdullah Abdul Majeed, Balaji Natesan, Vinaya Kumar Chithapuram Bhaskara, Ravisankar Sugumaran, Santosh Kumar Shantilaljain, Babu Kuppuswamy, and Alagurajan Sivasamy. Three were from Andhra Pradesh – Nallapeta Adiseshaiah Raviteja, Sreedhar Mudiam, and Jaya Lakshmi Gelli – while Kerala accounted for the remaining two, Avicot Cheriyan Thomas and Loveni Thomas.
Lava Mobiles, in a statement, said it was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy and that its immediate priority was supporting the affected families.
The president, Droupadi Murmu; the prime minister, Narendra Modi; the defence minister, Rajnath Singh; and the external affairs minister, S Jaishankar; expressed their condolences over the incident.
The Indian embassy in Vietnam said 15 survivors of the previous day’s tragic boat accident had received medical treatment, been discharged from the hospital, and were travelling back to India. It added that of the two patients who had been in critical care, one had been discharged and was returning to India, while the other remained under treatment at a hospital in Phu Quoc, and that they continued to pray for his early recovery.
The embassy further stated that Embassy and Consulate teams were present in Phu Quoc to provide any necessary assistance.
