New Delhi: The Indian Army’s Northern Command has invited applications for a 75-day internship in defence related technologies and specialized disciplines, with the deadline set for November 5. The programme is scheduled to begin on December 1 and offers a stipend of ₹30,000 a month, amounting to ₹75,000 over the full internship, subject to applicable conditions.
The internship comprises 15 days of online learning and 60 days of in-person work, according to programme details shared by Northern Command. The three announced locations are Udhampur, Srinagar and Leh, although it remains unclear whether applicants can choose their preferred posting.
In an official post on X, Northern Command encouraged young innovators and aspiring professionals to apply for the programme, directing interested candidates to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) National Internship Portal.
From AI to Mandarin interpretation
The programme covers cybersecurity and ethical hacking, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, quantum computing and cryptography, drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), robotics and autonomous systems, and space and satellite technologies. Advanced weapon systems and defence electronics, 5G/6G communications are also included.
The range extends beyond technical subjects to Mandarin interpretation and utilization, financial technology (FinTech) and mass communication and media. Their inclusion widens the scope of the intake, although candidates must check qualifications specified for individual vacancies rather than assume that every discipline is open to all applicants.
The internship aims to bring young innovators, aspiring technologists and creative professionals into projects addressing practical defence requirements. Northern Command has presented it as an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop technology-driven solutions that could support the Army’s operational readiness.
Cybersecurity and communications expertise can help secure digital systems, while drone and robotics projects can address reconnaissance and remote operations. Space technologies and satellite based applications have potential uses in communications and situational awareness.
The announcement, however, does not set out detailed project assignments or how many places are available in each field.
Northern Command’s call follows earlier openings under the Indian Army Internship Programme (IAIP) 2026-27, including opportunities advertised for New Delhi and the national capital region. Those listings had separate deadlines and programme terms, which should not be assumed to apply to the Northern Command intake.
How to apply before November 5
Prospective applicants can examine the Indian Army section of the National Internship Portal, maintained by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), to identify relevant openings. The portal provides student registration and internship listings, but applicants should confirm whether their selected role falls under Northern Command and check its stated qualifications, requirements and closing date.
The broad Northern Command announcement does not establish a common age limit, academic qualification or selection procedure across all specializations. Nor does the available reporting confirm whether accommodation will be provided or how payment will be affected by attendance.
Applications for the Northern Command intake close on November 5, ahead of the scheduled December 1 start. Candidates should rely on their specific listing for the final conditions rather than those of other Army internship programmes.
