Big blow to terror network as security forces recover huge arms cache in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kulgam

New Delhi: Security forces recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during an intelligence-based operation in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The recovery came during a coordinated search aimed at preventing terrorist activities in south Kashmir.
The operation was launched after the Jammu & Kashmir Police received specific inputs about the presence of hidden weapons in the Tantrypora-Sursunoo orchard area. Acting on the inputs, a joint team of the Indian Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles, the 18 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the police carried out a detailed search of the location.
During the operation, security personnel recovered one AK-56 rifle, two Chinese-made pistols, 13 hand grenades, two AK-56 magazines, one pistol magazine, 131 rounds of ammunition and other military stores, including under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) components. The entire cache was seized for forensic examination and further investigation.
Investigators are now working to establish the origin of the recovered weapons, identify those responsible for concealing them and determine whether the cache was linked to any planned terrorist activity. The surrounding area is also being searched to ensure no additional arms or explosives remain hidden.
A case has been registered in connection with the Kulgam recovery, and further investigation is underway.
Operation Sheruwali in focus
Meanwhile, security forces have continued counterterror operations in Jammu division under Operation Sheruwali. The operation was launched earlier this year in the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan forest area of Rajouri district.
The multi-agency operation involving the Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF was initiated following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the dense forest belt and forms part of sustained efforts to eliminate the remaining terrorist presence in the region.
Officials said intelligence-based joint operations by the Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF will continue across Jammu & Kashmir to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, intercept illegal weapons and strengthen the overall security environment.
