New Delhi: Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, met the chief of defence staff General NS Raja, Subramani on Tuesday, with the two sides reviewing ongoing military cooperation and discussing ways to further strengthen defence ties between India and Singapore.

Sharing details of the interaction on X, Wong said the meeting served as an introductory engagement following Gen Subramani’s recent appointment as India’s Chief of Defence Staff.

“Had an introductory call today on Chief of Defence Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, General NS Raja Subramani. Congratulated him on his recent appointment and reflected on the breadth of long-running defence cooperation between the armed forces of both countries through major exercises, exchanges, and established dialogues,” Wong wrote.

The Singapore envoy added that both sides also “shared views on furthering this strong partnership under Gen Subramani’s leadership.”

The meeting comes as India and Singapore continue to deepen defence and security cooperation amid evolving strategic dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region. Military engagement between the two countries spans regular exercises, professional exchanges and institutional mechanisms that have developed over decades.

The latest interaction follows a series of high-level defence engagements between the two nations. Last month, the defence secretary, Rajesh Kumar Singh, held talks with the Singapore defence minister, Chan Chun Sing on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue 2026 in Singapore.

In a post shared on X, the Ministry of Defence said, “Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh held productive interactions with Defence Minister of New Zealand Mr Chris Penk and Minister for Defence of Singapore Mr Chan Chun Sing on the sidelines of Shangri-La Dialogue 2026.”

According to the ministry, the discussions focused on “strengthening bilateral defence ties, enhancing maritime cooperation, advancing information-sharing mechanisms, and reaffirming a shared commitment to a secure, stable and inclusive Indo-Pacific.”

Defence ties have remained a key pillar of the broader India-Singapore relationship, with both sides maintaining close cooperation across the armed force.

The discussion between Wong and Gen Subramani highlighted the commitment of both countries to further strengthen these ties and explore new avenues of cooperation in the years ahead.
