Indian Army chief Gen Dhiraj Seth reviews Central Command’s operational readiness, modernization during two-day visit

New Delhi: The chief of the Army staff, General Dhiraj Seth, reviewed the operational preparedness, modernization initiatives and security situation across the Army’s Central Command during a two-day visit on Tuesday and Wednesday. This comes as the force continues to sharpen its readiness against a rapidly evolving regional security environment.
Currently, the Indian military is accelerating capability enhancement, expanding indigenous defence technologies and refining operational concepts in response to simultaneous challenges along the country’s northern frontiers and an increasingly uncertain regional security landscape.
At the Central Command headquarters in Lucknow, Gen Seth received detailed briefings on the command’s operational posture, infrastructure development, modernization programmes and measures aimed at improving combat readiness. He also visited the headquarters of Uttar Bharat Area in Bareilly, where he interacted with senior commanders and troops.
According to the Army, the discussions focused on the prevailing security environment, operational preparedness and ongoing efforts to strengthen the command’s capabilities.
Central Command is one of the Army’s most strategically important operational formations. Responsible for a vast area stretching across northern and central India, it oversees sectors bordering China along parts of Uttarakhand and provides logistical, administrative and operational support for forces deployed in the higher Himalayan regions. The command also plays a critical role in reserve force management, strategic mobility and disaster response.
Addressing officers and soldiers during the visit, Gen Seth stressed that operational preparedness, adaptability and self-reliance would remain central to the Army’s combat effectiveness. He urged personnel to stay vigilant, remain operationally agile and prepare for emerging forms of warfare and evolving security challenges.
The emphasis on self-reliance reflects the Army’s broader modernization agenda, which increasingly prioritizes domestically developed platforms, advanced surveillance systems, network-centric capabilities, drones, artificial intelligence-enabled technologies and precision weapons under the government’s push for indigenous defence production.
During the visit, General Seth also presented the Yoddha Seva Samman to four Army veterans in recognition of their contributions to society after military service.
The recipients were Major General Harsh Kakar (Retd), Colonel Arvind Singh Kushwaha (Retd), Naib Subedar Radhey Shyam (Retd) and Risaldar Major (Honorary Captain) Vijay Kumar (Retd). They were honoured for work in fields including education, healthcare, environmental conservation, agriculture, sports, social service and veterans’ welfare.
The award recognizes former servicemen who continue to serve society beyond their years in uniform, reflecting the Indian Army’s effort to acknowledge contributions made outside active military service. The Army said the visit reinforced its continued focus on maintaining a high level of operational readiness while building a technologically advanced and increasingly self-reliant force capable of responding to future security challenges.
