Two people found in possession of arms and ammunition, along with posters of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were arrested in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, by the state police on Monday (May 11, 2026).
In another operation, a terrorist infiltrating into the state through the borders with the neighbouring nation was killed in operations by Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (May 12).
Jammu and Kashmir police said the arrested persons were first intercepted while riding a motorcycle near the Baba Dem area in Srinagar during a routine check.
Police said they had stopped the duo, and a search was conducted, when they recovered a pistol, three magazines of ammunition, 21 live rounds, two mobile phones, and 10 LeT posters from them.
“A case was registered with FIR number 26/2025 under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. Further investigation has been taken up,” the police said. The arrested persons were identified as Faisal Ahmad Bhat of Malpora Habba Kadal and Faisal Ahmad Guroo of Rajouri Kadal.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army foiled a major infiltration attempt by suspected Pakistan terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the border state, killing one of the terrorists during a military operation.
Defence officers said the search operations and heavy exchange of fire between the army troops and the holed-up terrorists were underway in the Krishna Gati sector of Poonch’s Mendhar area.
They said alert troops noticed suspicious movement of a group of heavily armed terrorists attempting to cross the LoC under the cover of darkness.
The infiltrators were challenged, following which the cornered terrorists opened fire. The army troops responded with retaliatory fire, triggering an intense gunfight.
The officers said one terrorist was killed in the encounter, though the body is yet to be recovered, as operations remain underway. The intruder, suspected of being linked to LeT, was attempting to enter Indian territory near the Bicho Post in the Mankote area.
The remaining infiltrators are believed to have retreated towards the Pakistani side of the LoC. Additional troops were deployed, and the entire area has been cordoned off.
“The troops continue to dominate the area and maintain a high state of operational readiness across the sector,” the Indian Army said.
A search operation is underway to ensure that no infiltrators manage to sneak through, with the Army deploying surveillance equipment and drones to monitor the forested terrain along the LoC.
