New Delhi: Authorities in Jammu & Kashmir demolished the houses of two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives in Anantnag district during an overnight operation, hours after a police head constable was killed in a targeted shooting while deployed for Amarnath Yatra security. The action is part of an intensified counter-terror campaign aimed at disrupting militant networks and their local support infrastructure.
According to media reports, the demolished properties belonged to Adil Thokar, a resident of Guree in Bijbehara, and Haroon Ganaie of Hassanpora. Security agencies have identified both as suspected active LeT operatives. The demolition was carried out during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
As RNA earlier reported, a J&K Police head constable, Ashiq Hussain, was critically injured after suspected militants opened fire on a police party near Lal Chowk in Anantnag on Wednesday afternoon. He was rushed to the hospital in Anantnag, where doctors declared him dead.
The Resistance Front (TRF), which Indian security agencies describe as a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. Authorities are verifying the claim as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the killing, security forces launched an extensive search operation across Anantnag district. Additional personnel were deployed, checkpoints were strengthened and searches were conducted at multiple locations as investigators worked to identify the attackers and trace any individuals who may have provided logistical or operational support.
Reports said the demolition of the two houses forms part of a wider strategy to dismantle the infrastructure allegedly used by militant organisations and weaken networks that facilitate terrorist activities in the Kashmir valley.
The incident has heightened security concerns in Jammu & Kashmir, particularly during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, for which security arrangements have been significantly strengthened. Forces remain on high alert as anti-terror operations continue across the Union Territory.
