New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against eight accused in connection with the car bomb blast at Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala, Haryana, which took place in January 2026. The blast involved an improvised explosive device (IED), packed into a car along with gas cylinders. The chargesheet was filed before the special NIA court in Panchkula under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and the Telecommunication Act, 2023, according to the agency.
The accused include Shehzad Bhatti, described by the NIA as a Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist and the handler behind the attack, along with seven Indian nationals allegedly part of the terror module. The agency identified Akash as Bhatti’s alleged principal India-based coordinator.
According to the NIA, Bhatti built an operational network inside India and recruited and radicalized individuals through social media and encrypted messaging platforms. He allegedly instructed local operatives to arrange explosives, gas cylinders, vehicles and logistics, and to carry out reconnaissance of the police station before the attack.
Investigators allege the accused parked the car loaded with gas cylinders and explosive material inside the police station premises, and filmed the incident for propaganda purposes. The agency said forensic, digital and documentary evidence showed the accused remained in contact with Bhatti throughout the planning and execution of the attack.
The NIA said the alleged objective was to spread fear, attack a symbol of law enforcement, and create psychological impact by targeting a police establishment. The agency said its investigation into the wider network remains ongoing, and it continues to examine whether additional individuals or networks were involved in the alleged conspiracy.
