New Delhi: The White Knight corps on Sunday mourned the death of Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami, who lost his life during a counter-terrorism operation in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
The young officer was part of a search team engaged in Operation Sheruwali, a sustained anti-terror operation underway in the forested areas of Rajouri. During the operation, he reportedly slipped in difficult terrain and fell into a deep gorge, sustaining fatal injuries.
Paying tribute to the officer, the White Knight Corps said Lieutenant Goswami made the “supreme sacrifice” while performing his duties in an area marked by “rugged terrain, steep cliffs and adverse weather conditions.”
In a post on X, the corps described the officer’s commitment to service as exemplary, stating that his “unwavering devotion to duty, indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation will remain an enduring inspiration to all ranks.”
The corps formation also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, saying it stands with them in this hour of grief and prayed for “eternal peace to the departed soul.”
The anti-terror operation remains underway in the forested belt of Rajouri’s Manjakote sector, where security forces are pursuing leads on the presence of militants in the area.
Launched on May 22 following specific intelligence inputs, Operation Sheruwali is being conducted jointly by the army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and the CRPF. Advanced surveillance assets, including drones and helicopters, along with sniffer dogs, have been deployed to assist the search effort across the Ghambir Mughalan and Dorimal forests.
Troops had a brief encounter with suspected militants shortly after the operation began, but no fresh contact has been reported since. Security forces have nevertheless maintained an intensive search to locate the hiding terrorists.
