Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi said on Saturday that all three services are preparing for a potential Operation Sindoor 2.0, while clarifying that Operation Sindoor remains ongoing despite a temporary cessation of hostilities.
“Operation Sindoor is still continuing. There is a temporary cessation of hostilities,” General Dwivedi said, speaking to reporters after reviewing the Passing Out Parade of the 150th Course at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune. “All three services are preparing well for Operation Sindoor 2.0 if the need arises.”
The Army Chief said the armed forces are maintaining a high level of operational preparedness and are working to strengthen joint capabilities to address future security challenges.
On the subject of military reforms, General Dwivedi said the proposed theatre command structure is progressing steadily, with recommendations already submitted to the Defence Ministry. He expressed confidence that the new framework would enhance integration among the Army, Navy and Air Force and could begin taking shape over the next few years, according to ANI.
Addressing the evolving nature of warfare, the COAS noted that modern battlefields have become increasingly transparent due to technological advancements, making operational security and force protection more critical than ever. He stressed the importance of safeguarding both troops and civilians in border areas amid emerging threats.
On information warfare, General Dwivedi underlined the role of public trust, stating, “A nation that trusts its stakeholders will always win the war.” He said national unity remains essential in countering misinformation and building resilience during conflict.
On a personal note, the Army Chief recalled his own days as an NDA cadet, saying his first stop during the visit was Charlie Squadron — the unit where he had trained. Learning that it had been named the Champion Squadron this term heightened his enthusiasm.
“When I reached NDA, the first thing I did was go to Charlie Squadron. When I came to know that this time it was the Champion Squadron, my enthusiasm increased and I remembered my days, how we used to live there because I myself was a PT Captain,” he said.
General Dwivedi said watching the cadets during the Physical Training display evoked memories of his own time as a young trainee. He expressed confidence that the discipline, enthusiasm and confidence displayed by today’s cadets would carry the armed forces to greater heights in the future.
